The
nature and recreation program offers a variety of activities at
the park. Guided nature hikes, crafts and movie's are just a
few to mention. Programs and tours can be arranged for
groups. Nature and cultural programs are offered to park guests year- round.
Swimming,
Boating & Games
Swimming
and boating are available at Cacapon Resort State Park Lake.
Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend the swimming area offers
a wide sandy beach. Lifeguards are on
duty daily throughout the summer. Row boats and paddle boats
can be rented for a float across the lake. Take advantage of the game courts available, newly resurfaced tennis courts, paved basketball court or sand volleyball court.
Fishing
Two areas at the park, the lake and reservoir, offer fishing
opportunities. The lake is stocked in the spring
for trout fishing, but other fish that
can be caught are bass, catfish and blue gill. The reservoir is not stocked.
Nearby fishing
opportunities include the Potomac River and Cacapon River.
Anyone under the age of 15 does not need a license to fish, those
over 15 must obtain a West Virginia Fishing License. Proper
license and stamps are required. Short term fishing licenses
are sold at the Lodge.
Golf
At
2,300 feet, Cacapon Mountain is the dominant scenic feature of the
park. The challenging championship golf course, designed by
the famous golf course designer Robert Trent Jones, Sr., makes prime use of the rolling
foothills at the base of the ridge. Rated as one of the 130
best-designed courses in the United States, the Cacapon course features 73
well placed sand bunkers. There are three ponds on the
course which come into play on four holes. The course has
several other water hazards in the form of small streams coming
from the mountain side. The course is known for a double green that is over
100 yards wide.
The
course plays 6827 yards for the championship tees with a par of 72,
a course rating of 72.9 and a slope rating of 126. The white
tees have a yardage of 6267, a 70.4 rating with a slope rating
of 123. The yellow tees are 5,910 yards in length with a 68
rating and slope of 119 for men and a 73 rating and slope rating
of 118 for ladies. Red tees
> are 5,647 yards with a slope rating of 118 and an
> overall rating of 70.7.
The
course offers a fully equipped clubhouse with pro shop,
snack bar, locker rooms and rental carts. A full-time PGA
golf pro and a part-time LPGA teaching professional are on duty

R. Slavetskas, with the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional
Division, offer video lessons as well as private, group, and
on-course lessons. The video is state-of-the art, including
frame-by-frame, slow motion, and a screen-writer
telestrator as seen on national television. Student can get
immediate visual feedback on the range. In addition, an
optional VHS tape can be provided for further review and
